Jaak Siim

Jaak has been a member of the Estonian Bar Association since 2009 and an Attorney at Law since 2011. Before practicing as a lawyer, he worked for almost nine years at the Customs Board and the Tax and Customs Board, where he also led several divisions within the legal department. As a lawyer, Jaak has served as a partner in several prestigious law firms.

Jaak’s main areas of practice include administrative proceedings, tax law, customs law, contract law, litigation in administrative and civil cases, as well as defence and representation in criminal and misdemeanour cases.

Jaak has received several international recognitions, including from very reputable legal market reviewers. The independent and renowned publication Chambers and Partners, which assesses the international legal market, has recognised Jaak in the field of tax law from 2022 to 2024, highlighting his work in representing clients in tax audits and investigations by the tax authorities. The leading legal market review publication, The Legal 500: Europe, Middle East & Africa, has repeatedly acknowledged Jaak as a leading lawyer in the fields of tax law and dispute resolution, describing him as a ‘superstar in white collar criminal defence who works around the clock to achieve the best results’. Jaak received this acknowledgment from the publication in 2012-2018 and again in 2023-2024. The international publication Best Lawyers, which shares expert opinions on legal matters, has named Jaak as one of the best experts in Estonia in administrative law, tax law and criminal law from 2013 to 2018.

Jaak has published numerous articles in various economic and legal publications and has lectured at seminars and conferences. He has also previously taught customs law at the Tallinn School of Economics.

In his free time, Jaak enjoys reading books and magazines on historical topics. Additionally, he is a sports enthusiast, both as a spectator and as a participant whenever possible.
